The Ministry of Information recently organized a workshop for arts and culture journalists in Accra as part of its Media Capacity Enhancement Programme.
The workshop, which took place at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, saw the participation of arts journalists from various media networks.
One of the key topics discussed during the training was Intellectual Property (IP) laws and the Creative Arts Industry Act (1048). Legal practitioner Kwadwo Ofori Dankwah Esq.
provided insights into the composition of the creative economy and highlighted the provisions in the Creative Arts Industry Act aimed at regulating activities in Ghana’s creative arts sector.
The workshop also delved into a recent case involving a ban on celebrities from endorsing alcoholic beverages, with Kwadwo Ofori Dankwah Esq. providing an analysis on the ruling and its implications.
Additionally, Benjamin Oduro Arhin Jnr. (Bnoskka), a lecturer specializing in copyright matters, discussed intellectual property aspects and copyright infringement, particularly in the context of media practice.
He cautioned against using people’s intellectual property without permission, emphasizing the importance of respecting copyright laws.
The Media Capacity Enhancement Programme is designed to equip journalists with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their professional capabilities.
