Deputy Country Director of International Medical Associates for Global Health Empowerment (IMAGHE), Samuel Ntiamoah, has issued a stern warning against the consumption of highly salted foods, such as ‘Koobi’.
In a recent appearance on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning Show, he highlighted the dangers of sodium, or salt, in contributing to the development of hypertension in individuals of all ages.
Ntiamoah emphasized that modern lifestyle changes have shifted the risk of developing hypertension from older age groups to younger individuals, with some as young as their 20s.
He pointed out that sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy food choices, drug use, and other factors are all playing a role in this concerning trend.
The Deputy Country Director also discussed the impact of diet on blood pressure levels, citing processed foods, smoking, excessive drinking, and the consumption of highly salted foods like ‘Koobi’ as significant risk factors.
He explained that while there is no direct cause for fluctuations in blood pressure, habits such as drug and alcohol abuse, along with a diet high in salt and processed foods, can strain the heart and other vital organs.
Ntiamoah urged the public to be mindful of their sodium intake and to check the sodium content of packaged foods.
He advised sticking to the recommended daily intake of sodium, which is roughly 2 tablespoons and cautioned against adding extra salt to already prepared meals.
