Renowned Ghanaian actress, Dr. Akosua Abdallah, has distanced herself from a petition that seeks to revoke the recent appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner to the National Film Authority.
The petition was initiated by the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, a group of arts stakeholders, who raised concerns about the competence of Kafui and James to handle their positions.
In a statement released to the media, Dr. Akosua Abdallah clarified that she was not involved in the petition and had no knowledge of its initiation, drafting, or circulation.
She emphasized her focus on promoting collaboration, capacity-building, and artistic excellence within the creative sector, and maintained a neutral and professional stance on governance and appointments in state institutions.
The petition suggested alternative candidates for the positions, including George Bosompin, Jim Awindor, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu, Professor Linus Abraham, Akosua Abdallah, and Nicole Amarteifio.
However, three of the proposed candidates, Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, George Bosompim, and Professor Linus Abraham, have also distanced themselves from the petition.
Dr. Akosua Abdallah, as the Head of the Ghana Chapter of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), reiterated that she is not engaged in public or civil service, making any association of her name with the petition unwarranted.
She emphasized that any inclusion of her name was without her consent and did not reflect her views.
