Hunter Schafer, the star of “Euphoria,” was one of the protestors who were taken into police custody during a demonstration aimed at disrupting President Joe Biden’s appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
The protest was organized by the activist group Jewish Voices for Peace at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, where the show is taped.
According to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department, a total of 30 individuals, including Schafer, were taken into custody and issued summonses for trespass and disorderly conduct before being released. Images of the actor in handcuffs being led away by police circulated on social media following the incident.
Jewish Voices for Peace confirmed that more than 100 Jews and their allies were present at the protest, with 50 individuals, including Schafer, being arrested. The organization called on President Biden to stop supporting the Israeli government’s actions against Palestinians in Gaza.
The group’s communications director praised Schafer’s commitment to Palestinian freedom and justice, highlighting the organization’s dedication to organizing protests and disruptions nationwide.
During the protest, chants of “Let Gaza live” rang out in the 30 Rock lobby, accompanied by banners that read “Never Again for Anyone.” The demonstration coincided with President Biden’s visit to celebrate Seth Meyers’ 10-year anniversary on “Late Night.”
Schafer, known for her involvement in LGBTQ+ issues, has a history of political activism and gained national attention for speaking out against anti-trans legislation in North Carolina back in 2016.
The incident involving Schafer and the other protestors comes as part of ongoing efforts to draw attention to social justice issues and advocate for meaningful change.
