Ghanaian movie producer, Ola Michael, has expressed concern over the high tax systems in the country, which he believes are crippling the local movie industry.

Speaking to reporters, Michael lamented that the current tax incentives for showbiz are inadequate and do little to support the growth of the movie industry. He argued that the high tax rates are making it difficult for filmmakers to produce quality content and compete with international productions.

“The movie industry in Ghana is struggling due to the high tax systems. We need more tax incentives to encourage investment and production in the showbiz sector,” Michael said.

According to Michael, the lack of effective tax incentives is limiting the potential of the movie industry and hindering its ability to create employment opportunities and contribute to the country’s economy.

He urged the government to consider implementing tax breaks and other incentives to support the showbiz industry, as a means of fostering growth and sustainability.

“We need the government to step in and provide the necessary support for the movie industry. By implementing tax incentives, we can help boost the production of quality local content and create more jobs for young talents,” Michael emphasized.
