Broadcaster and co-founder of the music streaming service Aftown has set the record straight regarding the claim that GMX is the first Ghanaian music streaming platform. In an interview with DJ Slim on Hitz FM, Antoine emphasized that while he supports the diversification of local businesses, it is essential to acknowledge that Aftown was the first Ghanaian music streaming platform to emerge.
Antoine expressed his concerns about GMX’s tagline promoting it as the first of its kind in Ghana. He suggested that they rephrase their marketing message to accurately reflect the reality of the market.
The GMX music streaming platform was officially launched at the De Icon Centre in Accra on October 31, 2024. Owned by Omni Strategies and operated with support from the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, GMX aims to boost the music industry in Ghana.

Ato Aduenu Tandoh, the General Manager of Omni Strategies, emphasized GMX’s commitment to promoting Ghanaian talent and called on stakeholders and music enthusiasts to support the platform’s mission.
The launch event was attended by key figures in the music industry and government, including the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana.
The Ghana Music Xperience is scheduled to be operational from January 2025, offering a platform dedicated to showcasing and supporting Ghanaian music and musicians.
