Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has expressed her frustration with the organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for the difficulties faced by some Ghanaian filmmakers with their flight tickets while traveling to Nigeria for the event.
The 20th edition of the AMAAs took place in Lagos on Saturday, November 2, 2024. However, according to Gloria Sarfo, the Ghanaian filmmakers who were invited to attend the award ceremony found themselves stranded at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
In a social media video, Gloria Sarfo revealed that the tickets provided by the organizers did not allow them to board their flight.
This issue affected over fifteen filmmakers and media practitioners, including prominent names such as Abdul Salam Mumuni, Frank Rajah, Pascal Amanfo, and Akorfa Adjeani.
The invitation promised a fully sponsored trip with detailed flight information and an itinerary.
However, Gloria expressed her disappointment at being left stranded at the airport, missing out on work commitments like a movie set, a feature film, a short film, an awards night where she was nominated, and even a movie premiere.
Adding to the frustration, Gloria highlighted that there was no communication from AMAA after it became apparent that their flights were not confirmed.
She described the situation as embarrassing and emphasized that the organizers did not show them respect by putting them through such an unpleasant experience on November 1, 2024.
As a result of these challenges, many members of the Ghanaian team scheduled to attend the event in Nigeria were unable to make it.
Reports also suggest that those who did manage to attend the award ceremony faced accommodation issues in Nigeria.
