Actor and Omankrado of Affumkrom, Mikki Osei Berko, popularly known as Dada Boat, has expressed his belief that Ghana’s movie industry is not dead, contrary to popular belief.
During an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli, Dada Boat stated that although the industry is struggling, it is still very much alive and in need of support to thrive.
“It’s not dead; it’s in a coma and needs medication,” he humorously remarked.
To address the challenges facing the industry, Dada Boat highlighted the importance of effective policies and training. He emphasized the need for government involvement to help solve the industry’s issues, as it plays a significant role in the country’s economic growth.
“Government should get involved because it’s an important part of the economy we cannot underestimate. When policy comes into being, it means that training and the others follow,” he explained.
Dada Boat also raised concerns about the predominant airing of foreign content on Ghanaian media channels, which he believes is hindering the progression of the local industry.
“If it’s not stopped, one day I’ll have a one-man demonstration to help stop it because it’s killing our industry and economy,” he warned.
He suggested that television stations should be mandated by legislative instrument (L.I) to show local content more frequently to promote and support the local industry.
