Gambo talks about American dream vs African reality on Voice of America

Ghanaian rapper Gambo, known for his hit song ‘Drip’, recently visited VOA’s studios in Washington during his tour in the US. In an interview with reporter Mike Hove, Gambo shared his experiences of living the “American dream” and meeting iconic rapper Snoop Dogg for the first time in February 2024.

The meeting between Gambo and Snoop Dogg took place in Los Angeles, California, on the sidelines of the African pre-Grammy Awards Global Affairs event. Gambo described Snoop Dogg as a warm personality who made him feel comfortable and at ease.

During the interview, Gambo also revealed that he is working on an Afrobeats album that he plans to release in the future. He expressed gratitude to the pioneers of Afrobeats for paving the way for younger artists like himself to gain recognition on the global stage.

Gambo emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among African artists, calling on them to support each other and promote African culture worldwide. He highlighted his collaborations with Nigerian musician Goya Menor on ‘Cut Soap’, as well as other successful projects with artists like Lade and Young Daresalama.
