 E/R: Upper Yilo to get major Telecom boost: MTN Ghana set to revolutionize connectivity

In a significant development, the Ghanaian government together with the honorable Member of Parliament for Yilo – Krobo Constituency Mr. Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, in partnership with Africa`s Telecommunication Network giant MTN, has announced plans to establish a cutting-edge telecommunications network in Upper Yilo, a district in the Eastern Region.

This ambitious project aims to bridge the digital divide, foster economic growth, and improve the quality of life for residents.

Upper Yilo, with its vast natural resources and agricultural potential, has long been hindered by inadequate telecommunications infrastructure.

The lack of reliable connectivity has limited access to essential services, hindered business growth, and isolated communities.

The upcoming network will cover the entire Upper Yilo district, including places like Omlase, Aboa-Besease, Lowerh, Opersika, Wurapong, Bornya, Perpertifi, Samlasi, Akpoh and many of its environs.

Providing fast and reliable internet services for homes, businesses, and institutions.

Enhanced mobile coverage, enabling seamless communication and access to digital services. Secure and convenient mobile financial services for unbanked populations.

In an exclusive interview with an aid to the Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Okrah he said,

“Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) did the Connectivity Drive Test after the MP made this problem known in Parliament on the 21st of June 2022, and did the necessary follow-ups.

Today the materials are in and soon our people will enjoy the luxury of communication at their convenience”.

He further elaborated on the benefits of network connectivity to the area in the following sectors.

  1. Economic Growth: Enhanced connectivity to attract investments, boost trade, and create jobs.
  2. Improved Healthcare: Telemedicine services and access to medical expertise.
  3. Education: Online resources and digital learning platforms.
  4. Social Inclusion: Bridging the digital divide, connecting communities, and promoting social cohesion.

Establishing a modern telecommunications network in Upper Yilo marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.

This project will unlock the district’s potential, driving economic growth, social development, and improved quality of life for residents.
