Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has defended his genre against claims that it is causing problems in Ghana’s music industry.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on HitzFM’s Daybreak Hitz, Stonebwoy emphasized the economic benefits of dancehall festivals, stating that they bring in revenue for hotels, airlines, and create job opportunities for many people.
He refuted the idea that dancehall is to blame for the challenges in the music industry, arguing that the ecosystem surrounding the genre supports numerous livelihoods.
Stonebwoy also challenged the notion that Ghanaian music should be limited to a single genre, stating that diversity is essential for the industry to thrive.
Comparing Ghana to countries like the United States, Stonebwoy highlighted the importance of allowing artists to explore various genres such as Afrobeat, dancehall, and hip hop. He stressed the need for the country to embrace its rich cultural heritage and express it in diverse ways.
