Two legendary musicians, Daddy Lumba, and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, were honored at the National Honours and Awards 2024 for their immense contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry.
The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, recognized the two icons with the Grand Medal in appreciation of their dedicated service to the nation.
In the Creative Arts category, actress and filmmaker Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante was also honored, alongside renowned filmmaker Kwaw Paintsil Ansah who received the prestigious Order of the Volta (Member).
The National Honours and Awards ceremony, established in 1960 by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, aims to acknowledge individuals and institutions who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s development, celebrating creativity, excellence, and hard work across various fields.
In addition to the traditional honors, this year’s event highlighted the introduction of the Presidential Honours and Awards for Distinguished Service, initiated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2023.
This new category recognizes extraordinary contributions made during the COVID-19 pandemic, praising the resilience and collaboration shown by citizens, institutions, and international partners in protecting lives and mobilizing resources during the crisis.
The honours, which include the Grand Medal, the Order of the Volta, and the Order of the Star of Ghana, among others, shine a spotlight on the dedication and achievements of those who have served Ghana with distinction.
