Ghanaian tourism expert, Jonathan Nii Laryea (Jonilar), is advocating for filmmakers to consider Klowem, a picturesque location in the Manya Krobo district, for their film projects.
Recognizing the untapped tourism potential of Klowem, Jonilar believes that government officials responsible for promoting Ghana’s image internationally should take action to showcase this beautiful destination.
In a recent statement, Jonilar emphasized the need for utilizing Klowem, the ancestral home of the Manya Krobo people, as a backdrop for movies, documentaries, or continental marketing campaigns.
He expressed his belief that highlighting such unique locations in Ghana could attract foreign investment, promote cultural exchange, and stimulate growth in the creative arts industry.
Comparing Ghana’s tourism efforts to those of other African nations, Jonilar urged the government to prioritize infrastructure development, particularly the improvement of road networks to key tourist sites.
He stressed the importance of collaboration and national focus to address these challenges and enhance the country’s appeal to visitors.
While the Ghana Tourism Authority is working to enhance the tourism sector, the National Film Authority has been actively promoting Ghana as a filming location for international productions.
Several successful projects, including Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Anikulapo’ and a high-profile Super Bowl advertisement, have already benefitted from filming in Ghana through the ‘Shoot in Ghana’ initiative.
As Ghana strives to position itself as a leading destination for film production and tourism, Jonilar’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the country’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty waiting to be showcased to the world.
