Isaac Koney, a rising Ghanaian artist, is making waves in the art world with his unique and impressive portfolio.
Specializing in hybrid art, he uses old learning materials such as slates, chalk, pastels, crayons, and charcoal to create captivating figures and abstract images.
Born in Osu, Accra, Isaac faced challenges growing up in a deprived suburb. Raised by his mother, a petty trader, and with support from his grandmother and stepfather, Isaac had to hawk on the streets to fund his education and support his family.
Despite the difficulties, his passion for art remained unwavering.
From a young age, Isaac showed a keen interest in the arts, excelling in art-related courses at school.
This passion led him to pursue Visual Arts at Presbyterian Senior High School. It was during this time that he decided to turn his love for art into a career.
Isaac’s talent did not go unnoticed, as he won several art competitions and built relationships with established artists to further his craft.
Determined to make a difference in his life and community, Isaac started the ‘Isaac Konney Community Projects’ to engage youth through art and inspire them to strive for excellence.
Through collaborations with institutions and galleries both locally and internationally, Isaac has showcased his work and shared his vision of using art as a tool for positive change.
His projects aim to empower and uplift young people, offering free art lessons, educational materials, and sporting activities to foster creativity and ambition.
Reflecting on the growing opportunities for artists in Ghana, Isaac highlighted the impact of young artists like Amoako Boafo on the art scene.
With more galleries emerging and providing platforms for artists to exhibit their work, Isaac believes in the transformative power of art to enrich lives and drive social change.
