Ama K. Abebrese, Kofi Kinaata named UN Goodwill Ambassadors

Prominent Ghanaian figures Ama K. Abebrese and Kofi Kinaata have been selected as Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations International Organization for Migration (UN-IOM).

The appointment of the two industry players is part of UN-IOM’s initiative to leverage the influence and reach of well-known personalities from diverse fields to advocate for its mission. The aim is to boost visibility, amplify messages, and promote collaboration at national, regional, and global levels.

Ama K. Abebrese, a renowned movie and TV star, shared her perspective as a diasporan with experiences in both Ghana and the UK, emphasizing the importance of safe and regulated migration channels. On the other hand, Kofi Kinaata, a multiple award-winning singer-songwriter and rapper, highlighted the need to educate young Ghanaians about migration decisions through his music, focusing on safe pathways, risks associated with irregular migration, and opportunities within the country.

Both Abebrese and Kinaata have been honored as National Ambassadors alongside other notable personalities. They include Gold Medal Olympic Runner Mo Farah, Musician Dimash Qudaibergen, Basketball Player Dzanan Musa, Football Club Club Atletico Penarol, Football Player Mouctar Diakhaby, National Geographic Explorer Nicolas Marin Benitez, Entrepreneur Mirela Sula, and Documentary Photographer Paul Choy.

Amy Pope, the IOM Director General, expressed her enthusiasm in welcoming these exceptional individuals as the organization’s new Regional and National Goodwill Ambassadors, recognizing them as trailblazers and sources of inspiration worldwide. She emphasized their role in championing well-managed migration and improving the lives of people on the move.

This appointment showcases the global recognition of Ghanaian talent and the pivotal role that these industry veterans can play in advocating for issues that impact the lives of Ghanaians and the global community.
