Rapper A$AP Rocky has been acquitted of firing a gun at a former friend, Terell Ephron, in Los Angeles. The musician, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was facing two felony assault charges that could have led to 24 years in prison.
The incident took place on a Hollywood street on November 6, 2021, where Ephron claimed that A$AP Rocky shot at him during an argument, causing a minor injury to his knuckles. However, A$AP Rocky denied the charges, stating that the weapon used was a prop gun and that Ephron was motivated by money.
The jury’s verdict of not guilty was met with cheers and applause in the courtroom. A$AP Rocky expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank God for saving my life,” and thanked the jury members for their decision.
The rapper, who is also a fashion mogul and the partner of pop star Rihanna, has been looking forward to the release of his first solo album in almost a decade. He is also set to co-headline Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud festival and co-chair the 2025 Met Gala.
Despite the legal battle, A$AP Rocky has continued to focus on his career, including appearing in an upcoming film alongside Denzel Washington. Rihanna, who has been supportive throughout the trial, was present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.
The friendship between A$AP Rocky and Ephron dates back to their high school days in New York, where they were both part of the A$AP Mob hip-hop collective. The incident in November marked a troubled turn in their relationship, with authorities intervening after the argument turned violent.
As A$AP Rocky celebrates his legal victory, he can now focus on his upcoming projects and continue to make strides in the music and entertainment industry.
