Some individuals and organizations have been recognized for their significant contributions to the promotion of Ghana’s tourism industry.
The 2024 National Tourism Awards (GTA) highlighted the importance of innovation and collaboration in maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a top destination for global travelers.
Among the awardees was Masaaba Sariki Fanyinama, the President of the National Council of Wangara Chiefs. He was honored for his efforts in traditional leadership and the preservation of culture.
Fanyinama III, who has served for 30 years, not only upheld and championed cultural heritage but also advocated for the modernization and enhancement of tourism infrastructure in Kintampo, a key location in Ghana.
As the Overlord of the Wangaras in Ghana, Fanyinama plays a crucial role in organizing the Benkadi Kurubi festival, a significant event celebrated annually in Kintampo, Bono East Region.
The festival attracts thousands of participants, including non-Wangaras who come to experience the festivities, make connections, and engage in trade.
The Benkadi Kurubi festival, an Islamic celebration meaning “light,” takes place in November each year to express gratitude, plan for development, and enjoy festivities.
Various activities, such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, are incorporated into the festival, starting at the regional level and culminating in Kintampo.
In an interview, Sariki Fanyinama expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing his success to the grace of Allah.
He emphasized the importance of nurturing and passing down culture to future generations, calling for increased focus on the tourism industry’s potential to positively impact Ghana’s economy.
A total of 36 awards were presented at the National Tourism Awards 2024, honoring individuals who have excelled in promoting Ghana’s tourism sector.
