The Africa Cinema Summit has been officially launched for the second edition at the Accra Tourist Information Centre on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
This summit serves as a platform for stakeholders in the cinema industry value chain, particularly in Africa, to engage in discussions about challenges and explore opportunities in the African cinema sector.
Under the patronage of H.E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the National Film Authority of Ghana, in collaboration with Silverbird Cinemas, announced this year’s edition.
The event is scheduled to take place from October 7-10 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Last year, the inaugural Africa Cinema Summit brought together representatives from 20 African countries to discuss the cinema landscape on the continent and tailor opportunities to fit the unique characteristics of each region.
The 2023 edition was a success, as acknowledged by President Akufo-Addo, and this year’s edition aims to build on that progress by promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in the African cinema industry.
During the launch, the NFA introduced the executive steering committee, comprising executives from the global cinema, content, and creative communities who will lead the summit.
This committee includes industry experts like Moses Babatope, Co-founder of Filmhouse Group, Rob Arthur, Founder of Entertainment Solutions, and other notable individuals.
High-profile personalities and celebrities who graced the launch event included Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Mark Okraku-Mantey, actors David Dontoh, Adjetey Annan, Bill Asamoah, and Kafui Dey.
The summit will focus on enhancing the quality of local content production and consumption to drive increased cinema investment.
