10 African countries to debate economic issues at 2024 Africa Diaspora Debate

Ten African countries have confirmed their participation in the upcoming 2024 Africa Diaspora Debate set to take place in Accra, Ghana.

The focus of this debate will be on discussing the economic challenges faced by Africans and exploring potential solutions to address these issues.

While this event has been hosted in various countries in the past, organizers have chosen Ghana as the host country for this year’s debate due to the economic hardships that many Africans, especially Ghanaians, are currently experiencing. Professor Kenneth A.

Newby, a Senior Assistant Professor and Director of Forensics (Speech and Debate Program), highlighted the historical significance of Ghana in the African independence movement, particularly referencing the important writings and works of Kwame Nkrumah.

Eric Asamoah Awuah, the Executive Director of Speech Forces Organisation, emphasized Ghana’s status as the first sub-Saharan country to gain independence, making it a fitting location to host such a significant event.

He noted Ghana’s role as a champion of the African Renaissance and credited Kwame Nkrumah for leading the country to independence, setting the stage for the debate.

Participants in the Africa Diaspora Debate will be addressing the topic of ‘A free market economy or a planned economy is the best for African people.’ This theme was carefully chosen by Prof.

Kenneth challenges the contestants and equips them with critical thinking skills to help their respective countries.

Interested universities are encouraged to apply for their representatives to participate in the debate, with lectures already underway at the University of Ghana campus.
