Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has recently brought attention to the struggles faced by music icons in the industry, calling for more support and recognition for those who have paved the way.
In a recent appearance on TV3’s New Day show on March 8, 2024, Wendy Shay discussed the challenges faced by veteran musician KK Kabobo, who is currently battling liver disease.
During her visit to KK Kabobo, Wendy Shay donated GH₵10,000 and made a heartfelt plea for additional assistance for the ailing artist. She expressed her disappointment in the lack of a solid industry framework to support musicians like KK Kabobo, who have made significant contributions to Ghanaian music.
Wendy Shay highlighted the disparity in opportunities between the current generation of musicians and their predecessors, like KK Kabobo, stating, “If, at that time, they had what we are enjoying today, I think they would have been fine because he had monster hit songs. And it’s just sad that we are now catching up.”
Calling for public support, Wendy Shay urged citizens to rally behind KK Kabobo and other veteran musicians facing challenges. She also called on authorities to establish a system that ensures the welfare and recognition of Ghana’s music legends. KK Kabobo, a respected Highlife musician and ordained Reverend Minister, is in need of financial support for his liver disease treatment.
Notably, influential figures such as Second Lady Samira Bawumia and former President John Mahama have already shown their support for KK Kabobo.
