US rapper Fatman Scoop tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a concert in Connecticut. The incident occurred while he was performing at the Town Center Park in Hamden.
Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed the news on Facebook, stating that the rapper was rushed to a local hospital but could not be saved.
His booking agency, MN2S, also released a statement expressing their condolences and highlighting Scoop’s lasting impact on the music industry.
Fatman Scoop was a prominent figure in New York City’s hip hop scene in the 1990s, collaborating on hits like Lose Control with Missy Elliott and It’s Like That with Mariah Carey.
His international success came with the release of Be Faithful in 2003, which topped the charts in Ireland and the UK.
Beyond his music career, Scoop appeared on the UK TV series Chancers in 2004 and was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA in 2015. His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, praising Scoop for his mentorship and friendship.
The UK’s Reminisce Festival, where Scoop was scheduled to perform in September, also expressed their shock and sorrow at his untimely passing.
Describing him as a beloved member of their community, the festival mourned the loss of his energy, talent, and infectious spirit.
