Popular singer Trey Songz is facing a hefty fine of $11 million after being ordered to pay for the battery of a police officer in connection to an incident that took place in 2021.
Court documents obtained by TMZ revealed that Tyrelle Dunn, a police officer in Maryland, is entitled to the money due to injuries he suffered at the hands of the 39-year-old artist.
The altercation occurred when Trey Songz invited a group of women to his Las Vegas hotel room to celebrate his 37th birthday, with Dunn’s wife being amongst the guests. Allegedly, she was held against her will and screamed for help as she was unable to leave, prompting Dunn to intervene.
Dunn was then reportedly attacked by Trey Songz and his security team, resulting in fractured eye sockets and scarring that kept him away from work.
Despite Trey Songz being cleared of criminal charges, Dunn pursued civil litigation against him. The judge ruled in Dunn’s favor, awarding him $11 million in damages to cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive measures towards the singer.
This legal battle is just one of many that Trey Songz has faced in the past year. In April, he settled a $25 million lawsuit accusing him of raping a woman at a party in 2016. He was also accused of gender violence, false imprisonment, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
In a statement reported by Radar Online, Trey Songz stated, “The settlement agreement conditions dismissal of this matter on the satisfactory completion of specified terms that are not to be performed within 45 days of the date of the settlement. A request for dismissal will be filed no later than June 10, 2024.”
