Renowned dancer and choreographer Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has recently raised concerns about the increasing trend of dancers using their art as a facade for prostitution.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Kaffy expressed worry over the fact that many young women are focusing more on the sexual aspects of dance rather than its true artistic expression.

According to Kaffy, dance goes beyond just making money.

She pointed out that some dancers are using their talent as a platform to sell their bodies instead of showcasing their skills.

However, she also highlighted the fast growth of the dance industry, which provides various opportunities for creative expression.

Emphasizing the importance of upholding integrity in dance, Kaffy stated, “Dance is an art form, and it’s crucial to set clear boundaries.

Sensuality in dance can be portrayed without resorting to nudity.” She advised aspiring dancers to remain true to their passion and resist any pressures to compromise their values, stating that authenticity is key to success in the industry.

Addressing stereotypes about women in the dance industry, Kaffy challenged the misconception that women don’t support each other as much as men do.

She argued that women are capable of being just as supportive, although their expressions of disagreement may be more noticeable.

Kaffy believes that both genders are capable of both supporting and undermining each other.

In her statements, Kaffy emphasized the complexity of navigating the dance industry with integrity while encouraging a broader understanding of the art form’s potential beyond its commercial aspects.

She urged dancers to explore a variety of career paths within dance, including coaching, dance science, therapy, and injury prevention, rather than just focusing on performing in music videos or clubs.
