Teddy Osei’s one-week memorial held in Kumasi

A one-week memorial service for the late Teddy Osei, a legendary trumpeter and founding member of the iconic band Osibisa, was held in Kyiriapatre, a community in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Teddy Osei was known for his musical genius in blending jazz, rock, and traditional African music, making a significant impact on the global music scene in the 1970s. His contributions to Afrobeat and world music continue to inspire musicians and fans alike.

Born in Kyiriapatre, Teddy Osei played a pivotal role in forming Osibisa, an internationally acclaimed band. He passed away at the age of 88 in the United Kingdom after a brief illness, leaving behind three children.

With his passing, the era of Osibisa comes to an end, as he was the last surviving member of the band’s three founding members, following the deaths of Sol Armafio and Mark Tontoh.

His family has announced that his remains, along with those of his elder brother Tony Suadwa, will arrive in Accra on April 3. They will then be taken to Kyiriapatre for his final internment.

Teddy Osei’s legacy will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family, fans, and the music world. His unique blend of musical styles and his pioneering work in Afrobeat will continue to influence and inspire generations to come.
