Ghanaian music star Kofi Kinaata has recently voiced concerns about the future of the youth in Takoradi, a city in the Western region of Ghana.
During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program, Kinaata expressed his worries about the mass exodus of young people from Takoradi in search of better opportunities elsewhere.
“I am not sure someone outside Ghana even knows there is a place called Western region but for the Takoradi people and myself who make noise through songs to put the area on the world map,” Kinaata lamented. He pointed out that many of his peers have left Takoradi due to a lack of prospects, leaving only younger generations behind who are likely to follow suit in the future.
Kinaata also highlighted the development challenges facing the region, noting that despite ongoing construction projects, the progress does not align with the area’s resources. He specifically mentioned the absence of essential facilities like theaters for cultural events, emphasizing the neglect felt by residents.
While the musician is passionate about his hometown, he admitted hesitance in discussing regional development due to emotional attachments that may cloud his judgment.
However, Kinaata’s concerns shed light on the larger issue of rural youth migration and the urgent need for sustainable growth strategies in overlooked areas.
