The N1 Highway in Accra experienced a major standstill on April 20, 2024, causing significant disruption to commuters traveling from Lapaz to Spintex.
The heavy traffic jams led to lengthy delays, forcing many to seek alternate routes to reach their destinations.
The chaos on the highway was a result of a large gathering near the Accra Mall for a sales event called Porials Pitch, organized by popular social media influencer Dulcie Boateng, also known as the ‘Queen of Snapchat.’ Despite the event’s success in attracting a massive crowd without traditional advertising, it soon turned into a contentious situation.
Authorities intervened due to alleged violations of health regulations and the sale of unregistered products at the event.
Several organizers, including Dulcie’s partners, were arrested amid concerns about the legality of the products being sold, which included items such as boric acid suppositories, butt enlargement creams, weight gain syrups, and unapproved soaps.
The accused individuals were taken to the Accra Central Police Station and are expected to face charges related to selling unapproved items and promoting products not endorsed by the FDA.
This incident sheds light on the regulatory hurdles faced by online influencers who delve into product promotions.
