The Accra Regional Police Command has extended an invitation to actress Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, and Henry Osei Akoto for a meeting regarding their intention to organize a vigil protesting the recent power supply challenges.
A letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Arhin Kwasi Annor, stated that the meeting will focus on discussing the logistics of the planned demonstration. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
Yvonne Nelson had previously notified the Ghana Police Service about her plans to protest against the government.
In a statement released on May 9, she announced her intention to hold the vigil on May 25 at Revolution Square, starting at 8:30 am and concluding at midnight.
The actress called on the public to join her in a campaign against the ongoing power cuts, known as ‘dumsor’. She emphasized the importance of public support for the upcoming protest and expressed hope for a turnout similar to the 2015 dumsor protest she organized alongside other celebrities.
The actress seeks to raise awareness and increase pressure on the government to address the issue of erratic power supply in the country.
The meeting with the Police Command will serve as an opportunity to coordinate the peaceful demonstration and ensure a safe and orderly event.
