Iconic Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has shared his thoughts on why the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the December 7, 2024 election.
While the Electoral Commission has yet to officially declare the results, provisional results indicate that John Mahama of the NDC is projected to win the Presidential elections. The NDC has also claimed to have secured 185 seats in Parliament.
Speaking to James Copnall on BBC’s Newsday, M.anifest, whose real name is Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, emphasized that the citizens were unhappy with the governance of the country, leading to the NPP’s loss of power.
He highlighted the need for accountability from the new leadership, referencing past activism incidents as a way for citizens to hold leaders accountable.
M.anifest pointed out that there has been an increase in youth activism in Ghana, with protests against issues like illegal mining and high unemployment rates.
He emphasized the importance of everyday accountability, stating that Ghanaians are expressing their voices more frequently and not just during elections.
The sense of urgency and need for accountability is growing among the people, especially the youth who are most affected by the challenges facing the country.
