The CEO of the National Film Authority of Ghana, Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, has criticized the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for not giving proper credit in their report on an interview with Idris Elba.
The report, which stated that the British actor plans to relocate to Africa, failed to mention that this statement was made during the Africa Cinema Summit 2024 held in Accra.
Juliet expressed her disappointment on Facebook, calling out the BBC for not acknowledging the Africa Cinema Summit where the interview took place.
She highlighted the importance of giving credit where it is due and emphasized the disrespect shown towards the summit and its organizers.
The Africa Cinema Summit, which took place from October 7-10, 2024 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, featured Idris Elba as the headline personality. The event aimed to promote growth in quality local content production and increase investment in the cinema industry.
Juliet’s statement also pointed out the lack of recognition by Ghanaian channels that published the article without acknowledging the efforts of the National Film Authority and other partners who worked to make the summit a success.
The Africa Cinema Summit 2024, organized by the National Film Authority in partnership with various industry stakeholders, focused on fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in the African cinema industry.
