Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso, the running mate for John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has emphasized the significant roles of a Vice President in governance, debunking the notion that the position is merely titular.
In an interview with Joy FM’s Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, the musician-turned-politician highlighted the pivotal role played by the Vice President in the government.
He pointed out that the Vice President is elected alongside the President and has a crucial role to play in governance.
He stressed that the Vice President cannot absolve themselves of responsibility when the government faces challenges, as outlined in the constitution where the Vice President acts in the absence of the President.
Drawing comparisons to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current Vice President of Ghana, Owusu Danso criticized Bawumia for taking credit for successes like digitalization while deflecting blame for economic failures.
He likened the Vice President to a driver’s mate, suggesting that the role is equally important as that of the driver.
Dr. Bawumia, on the other hand, has expressed his intentions to do more for Ghanaians if elected as President, citing limitations in his current position as Vice President.
He noted that his priorities as President would differ from his role as Vice President, emphasizing the need to build on the achievements of the current government.
Owusu Danso, who is also a lawyer, broadcaster, and PR consultant, pledged to resign as Vice President if the Movement for Change wins power and fails to meet expectations.
