Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the Ghanaian woman who recently made headlines for her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon, has opened up about her decision-making process.
Asantewaa, who unfortunately did not succeed in breaking the record, revealed that she initially had her sights set on a different challenge – breaking the record for the fastest 100 meters run in heels by a woman. However, she was advised against this by her husband.
In an interview on the Okukuseku Talk show, Asantewaa shared, “I initially wanted to try the fastest 100 meters run in heels by a woman. That was my first choice. But my husband advised me against it. He said I should go for something I was passionate about and would not give up easily.”
Ultimately, Asantewaa decided to pursue the sing-a-thon as it aligned with her love for music and her desire to promote Ghanaian music on a global scale.
She expressed her motivation, stating, “I’m a very passionate person and I love music, so I decided to go for the longest singing marathon. I also wanted to promote Ghanaian music and make it more popular, like the Nigerians have done.”
Despite not achieving her desired outcome, Asantewaa remains grateful for the public support she received during her record attempt.
She described the event as a unifying experience, saying, “It was a concert that brought the society together and united. I’m glad if it has inspired others to try other records.”
