‘I adopted the habit of smoking to play a movie role’ – Jackline Mensah

Renowned actress and TikTok sensation, Jackline Mensah, recently shared some behind-the-scenes insights into her unique method acting approach for her upcoming role in the movie “Tripping.”

In a recent interview, Jackline disclosed her unwavering dedication to fully embodying her character, Peggy, in the film. This involved immersing herself in unfamiliar habits, such as smoking packs of cigarettes on set to truly bring Peggy to life.

Directed by Yvonne Nelson, “Tripping” follows the escapades of Cole, played by comedian Hogan, and his companions as they face unexpected challenges during a retreat. Jackline’s portrayal of Peggy demanded a deep exploration of the character’s complexities, leading her to undergo an intensive preparation process.

During a discussion on Happy FM, Jackline shared some of the challenges she faced while preparing for the role. She revealed, “It took me like six months to get my complexion back after filming,” emphasizing the demanding shoot that involved navigating various locations and enduring physical challenges.

Despite the intensity of the role, Jackline embraced the opportunity to showcase her acting versatility. She explained, “I played the role of Peggy, a maid in the movie. I was a maid in the movie, which is opposite of me. I am versatile, so I didn’t have a problem with it.”

As part of her transformation for the character, Jackline adopted the habit of smoking. She admitted, “I smoked all through the movie. It was real smoke. From the first set to the second set, I smoked like two packs of cigarettes. But I don’t smoke in real life. I just had to do that for the role.”

Jackline’s commitment extended beyond just smoking; she even underwent piercing to truly capture Peggy’s essence. Despite the physical toll and sacrifices, she takes pride in her performance and encourages audiences to witness the premiere of “Tripping” on Easter Friday at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra.

“I gave my character my all,” Jackline emphasized. “I wanted to ensure that Peggy’s story was portrayed authentically on screen, and I hope audiences will appreciate the depth of the character and the journey we embarked on during filming.”
