The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has expressed disappointment in popular musician Shatta Wale for making derogatory remarks about the disability of his colleague, Stonebwoy.
During a recent performance, Shatta Wale took aim at Stonebwoy for his absence at a highly anticipated event. In his rant, Shatta Wale used inappropriate language and mocked Stonebwoy’s limp, which many found unnecessary given the circumstances.
In a press release, the GSPD condemned Shatta Wale’s behavior as irresponsible and potentially harmful to the mental well-being of the physically disabled community. The group emphasized that having a disability does not equate to being cursed or punished by God.
The GSPD called for Shatta Wale to issue an apology to the community and to remove the offensive videos from social media platforms. They also reminded the public that mocking or making derogatory comments about a person’s disability is a punishable offense under Disability Act 715.
One musician, Bosheba De Shyne, who has a disability, expressed his disappointment in Shatta Wale’s actions. He stated that he felt personally attacked by Shatta Wale’s comments and urged the singer to refrain from weaponizing disability in his insults.
