The recent passing of Akua Donkor, the flag bearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has sparked reflection on some memorable moments of her life.
Akua Donkor, who initially entered the political arena as an Assemblywoman for Hemang in the Ashanti Region, was known for infusing humor into the often intense political environment.
Throughout her political career, Akua Donkor stood out by running for the presidency multiple times, displaying unwavering determination despite facing financial constraints.
While her initial attempts in 2012 and 2016 as an independent candidate were unsuccessful, she met the Electoral Commission’s eligibility criteria and contested in the 2020 election.
With only 39 days remaining until the 2024 election, Akua Donkor had been advocating for policies such as providing free vehicles for journalists, offering duty-free port services for goods clearance, implementing free education, and enhancing farmers’ remuneration.
One of the recent highlights of her 2024 presidential campaign was appointing Roman Fada, manager of highlife musician Daddy Lumba and a broadcaster at Atinka FM, as her running mate.
Unfortunately, Akua Donkor passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the age of 72.
