The National Theatre of Ghana is gearing up to host the highly anticipated 2024 Ghana Theatre Festival, a week-long celebration dedicated to the legendary Ghanaian playwright, Efua T. Sutherland.
Efua T. Sutherland is a pioneering figure in African theatre, known for her transformative contributions to children’s literature and the performing arts in Ghana. This year’s festival, supported by various cultural and corporate partners, will feature four captivating performances that highlight the richness and diversity of Ghanaian theatre.
The festival kicked off with the launch on Tuesday, September 24th, featuring Agoro, a lively showcase of children’s plays directed by Elizabeth Sutherland. The festival promises to captivate audiences of all ages and will continue with exciting performances throughout the week.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the performance of Foriwa by the Abibigromma troupe from the School of Performing Arts on Friday, September 27th. This play explores post-colonial themes and social progress and promises to be a thought-provoking experience for all attendees.
On Saturday, September 28th, audiences can enjoy The Marriage of Anansewa, a delightful comedy co-produced by April Communications, Imagebureau, and the National Theatre. The festival will then conclude on Sunday, September 29th, with a performance of Edufa, another timeless work by Efua T. Sutherland.
