Ghanaian socialite Emil Wood, also known as ‘Nana Tonardo’, recently shared a frightening experience he had when he woke up one day and found that he was unable to swallow properly due to his mouth being shifted to one side.
Living in the United States at the time, Nana Tonardo initially thought he might be having a stroke or some other serious health issue. He described the moment when he woke up feeling fine but soon realized that something was wrong as he struggled to swallow saliva or even drink water without tilting his head.
In an interview with Kwaku Manu, Nana Tonardo expressed his concerns about his health and how the sudden ailment had left him baffled. He explained, “It was a normal night’s sleep, but I woke up in a strange state. Swallowing was impossible, and my mouth was twisted to one side. I began to wonder if I had a stroke because this sudden ailment was baffling.”
Seeking medical help, Nana Tonardo was rushed to a New York hospital by his cousin where he faced some laughter from people around him despite being in distress.
Reflecting on the challenging nine-month recovery that drained his finances due to expensive treatments, Nana Tonardo shared how the recent illness had filled him with fear and changed his perspective on life. He also mentioned his doctor’s warning about the unpredictable nature of his condition, leaving him anxious about potential recurrences.
Despite the ordeal, Nana Tonardo expressed gratitude for his recovery and shared that he now has a newfound appreciation for life.
