Canon EMEA, a leading imaging company, is continuing its sponsorship of the Canon Young Champion of the Year category at the Global Good Awards for the fifth consecutive year. This category aims to recognize and celebrate the achievements of young campaigners who are driving positive change in sustainability.
Entries for the Canon Young Champion of the Year category are now open and will close on 3 May. The award highlights young leaders who are actively working to bring about positive change in various aspects of sustainability and inspire others to take action. The award was established as an extension of Canon EMEA’s Young People Programme, which equips young individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to address important sustainability issues using creativity and critical thinking.
In the previous year, Raheen Fatima and Manyasiri ‘Pear’ Chotbunwong were named the winners in the under 16s and under 21s categories respectively. Raheen was recognized for her activism work, which focuses on educating young people globally on various topics using the Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation. Manyasiri, on the other hand, was acknowledged for her efforts in supporting women’s access to period products, education, healthcare, and employment through her non-profit organization, H.E.R. (Health. Equity. Respect).
Past winners of the Canon Young Champion of the Year category have had opportunities to represent Canon at major global events, including Expo 2020 Dubai. Additionally, some of the previous year’s finalists were featured in a TV and social media campaign with Warner Brothers Discovery brand, Cartoon Network.
Peter Bragg, Canon EMEA Sustainability & Government Affairs Director, expressed his delight in sponsoring the Global Good Awards for the fifth year and looks forward to receiving applications that showcase the hard work and achievements of young sustainability campaigners. He emphasized the importance of recognizing young sustainability champions who are making a tangible difference in their communities.
The judging panel for this year’s Canon Young Champion of the Year Award includes esteemed individuals such as the Executive Director at UN Global Compact Network UK, Steve Kenzie, and Canon Ambassador, Laura El Tantawy. The award is open in two categories – under 17s and under 25s – and welcomes entries from both participants of Canon Youth Programmes and external youth activists. Entries will be judged based on their alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and their impact on social and environmental sustainability.
Winners of the Young Champion Award will receive a Canon EOS R50 Content Creator Kit and will be invited to a masterclass with a Canon Ambassador. Shortlisted finalists will also receive certificates, sustainably made medals, and a joint masterclass with a Canon Ambassador.
Individuals can either submit an entry for themselves if they are over 18 or be nominated by a parent, guardian, company, or the charity/organization they are working with. The Canon Young Champion of the Year category is a platform to celebrate and recognize the efforts of young sustainability champions who are driving meaningful change and inspiring others to take action.
