The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently faced criticism from the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
During a national address, Dr. Bawumia spoke about the lack of decision-making power of the Economic Management Team (EMT), which he chairs.
Dr. Ato Forson dismissed Dr. Bawumia’s remarks and described them as untrue and unacceptable to the people of Ghana.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, Dr. Bawumia is making excuses for the failures of the EMT, leading to significant hardships for Ghanaians. He emphasized that Ghanaians are vigilant and will not be deceived by Dr. Bawumia’s rhetoric.
Dr. Ato Forson urged the Vice President to take responsibility for the failed policies under his leadership and to implement any improved strategies he may have, rather than aiming for the presidency.
He questioned why Dr. Bawumia is downplaying the role of the EMT and his chairmanship, especially when the impact of the government’s poor economic policies is adversely affecting Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia, on the other hand, clarified that the EMT lacked final decision-making authority, functioning as a sub-committee of the Cabinet and could only provide recommendations rather than enact them.
He stressed his intentions to use his decision-making powers if elected as President.
The exchange of remarks between the Vice President and the Minority Leader highlights the ongoing debate surrounding economic management and policy decisions in Ghana.
The public’s reaction to the statements made by both leaders will likely influence the future trajectory of the country’s economic policies.
