The creative industry in Ghana may need to adjust its expectations when it comes to the election of individuals from the sector to parliament.
Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, who was recently elected as the Member of Parliament for the Gomoa Central Constituency, has made it clear that his primary focus is on serving his constituents and not specifically fighting for the entertainment industry.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, A Plus emphasized that his mandate is to work towards bringing satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who showed confidence in him by electing him.
He stated, “I don’t want anyone to think that Kwame A Plus is going to Parliament to fight for the interest of the entertainment industry. That is not my business there, my interest is to work and bring satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who voted massively for me because of the confidence they have in me.”
A Plus also highlighted that he did not receive support from the creative industry while he was vying for the parliamentary seat. He mentioned that it was only a few friends in the industry who stood by him throughout the process.
Despite winning the parliamentary seat with 14,277 votes and defeating the incumbent MP from the New Patriotic Party by a margin of 2,640 votes, A Plus wants to make it clear that his main focus is on serving the people of Gomoa Central.
