Grammy Academy Member C-Real has raised concerns about Ghanaian artists not fully embracing their unique cultural identity, which he believes is hindering their potential to win a Grammy Award.
Despite previous nominations by artists like Rocky Dawuni, no Ghanaian artist has yet taken home the prestigious award.
During an appearance on Channel One TV’s entertainment talk show, The Chat, C-Real emphasized the importance of preserving Ghanaian music genres like Highlife and Hiplife.
He expressed disappointment in how the industry has shifted its focus to global trends, neglecting what makes Ghanaian music distinct.
C-Real, also known as Cyril-Alex Gockel in real life, urged artists to invest in their Ghanaian roots and sound in order to stand out on the global music scene.
In addition to being a Grammy Academy Member, C-Real is a Marketing Consultant and Media Personality at 3Music TV.
In a tweet shared by ChannelOne TV, C-Real was quoted saying, “We’re constantly chasing global trends without investing in what’s uniquely ours – we’re losing authenticity.”
His remarks highlight the need for Ghanaian artists to stay true to their cultural heritage while striving for international recognition.
