In an effort to support Ghanaian musicians and provide them with a platform to earn better financial rewards, Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced the upcoming launch of Ghana’s first local music streaming platform.

During a meeting with stakeholders in the creative arts sector, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of a homegrown solution that could offer substantial returns to Ghanaian artists. He pointed out that existing platforms like Spotify, which are owned externally, often provide minimal payments to musicians in Ghana.

To address this issue, Dr. Bawumia revealed that a collaborative effort involving MUSIGA, GHAMRO, music producers, and the private sector has been made to develop a local streaming platform. This platform is designed to manage revenue, track royalties, and create more opportunities for content creators in Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia expressed his enthusiasm for the completion of this project, stating, “We are ready to launch the first local streaming platform for Ghanaian musicians and film producers next month, in November.”

The new platform is expected to offer a more equitable revenue model for Ghanaian creatives, enabling them to better track and collect royalties while fostering sustainable growth in the industry.
