Gospel artist Sonnie Badu has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the construction of the National Cathedral in Ghana.

Speaking on Takoradi-based Empire FM’s ShowBiz Today with Feeling Daddy, Sonnie Badu shared his perspective on the controversial project.

According to Sonnie Badu, the root of the controversy lies in the fact that the pledge to build the cathedral was made by an individual to God, rather than being a collective decision.

He emphasized the importance of honoring vows made to God, citing biblical examples of individuals fulfilling their promises to the divine.

While acknowledging the positive intent behind the National Cathedral, Sonnie Badu highlighted the distinction between personal vows and communal initiatives.

He expressed support for the concept of a National Cathedral, drawing parallels to mosques that serve as communal places of worship for Muslims.

The construction of the National Cathedral was initiated by President Nana Akufo-Addo as a gesture of gratitude to God for his party’s electoral victory in 2016.

The interdenominational cathedral is envisioned as a symbol of unity and national cohesion, providing a space for formal state ceremonies and religious events.

Despite its noble intentions, the National Cathedral project has faced criticism and opposition from various quarters.
