Ghanaian special effects makeup artist Nathaniel Amewugah, professionally known as Kruz K, is pioneering a push for the development of a dedicated industry for special effects in movies.
In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli, Kruz K highlighted the challenges faced by film producers in Ghana due to the scarcity of professionals in the special effects field.
Kruz K emphasized that the limited availability of equipment and products necessary for special effects makeup hinders the creativity of filmmakers.
Most materials required for special effects makeup are imported from other countries, making them expensive and difficult to procure locally. This situation forces artists like Kruz K to think creatively and utilize alternative materials to achieve their desired effects.
To address these challenges and boost the sector, Kruz K has taken it upon himself to organize training sessions to help aspiring makeup artists acquire the skills needed for special effects.
By expanding the pool of talented professionals in the industry, Kruz K hopes to garner support from the government and other stakeholders to elevate the special effects makeup scene in Ghana.
With eight years of experience in special effects makeup, Kruz K has worked on various projects, including movies, stage plays, and music videos.
His portfolio boasts collaborations with industry heavyweights like Stonebwoy and George Quaye. Special effects makeup plays a crucial role in enhancing the realism of characters and scenes in movies, adding depth and authenticity to storytelling.
In a bid to further develop the special effects makeup industry, Kruz K recently conducted a workshop for interested individuals and plans to organize more training sessions in the future.
He believes that teamwork and collaboration among skilled professionals are essential to drive growth and innovation in the sector.
