Renowned actress Dr. Akosua Abdallah is urging individuals in the creative sector to actively participate in politics as a means of shedding light on the challenges faced by the industry.

Speaking on GhanaWeb TV’s Talkertainment with Elsie Lamar, Dr. Abdallah highlighted the examples of creatives such as Mark Okraku, Dzifa Gomashie, and John Dumelo who have made the transition into politics.

She stressed the importance of creatives in political positions advocating for the community, addressing crucial issues, and offering support to artists, especially those who are veterans.

According to Dr. Abdallah, “Having creatives involved in politics can give them a platform to speak up for the marginalized, enabling them to tackle issues and provide assistance to artists, particularly the older generation.

It is advantageous for them to be in roles where their voices can be heard.”

With a remarkable 40-year career in the entertainment industry, Dr. Akosua Abdallah started by organizing drama activities in Senior High Schools in Tamale.

She later moved to GBC as an assistant director for arts and religious TV programs before joining Abibigromma as an actress. Eventually, she rose to become the Deputy Executive Director of the National Theatre.

In 2017, Dr. Abdallah became a member of the National Commission on Culture, focusing on enhancing youth cultural development through collaborations, staff training, and participation in festivals to bolster skills within the cultural sector.

She also served on the Governing Council of AUCC and the International Theatre Institute.
