The Dean of Students Affairs at the University of Ghana, Professor Rosina Kyeremanten, has addressed the controversy surrounding the cancellation of Shatta Wale’s performance at the Reunion Rave Artistes Night organized by the TF Hostel.
In an interview with Radio Univers, Professor Kyeremanten explained that the organizers of the event did not follow the correct procedure when submitting their proposal for the event.
She clarified that the original proposal was for a Karaoke Night, not an Artistes Night, which required different security arrangements.
According to Professor Kyeremanten, the university authorities needed prior notice of the nature of the event to ensure adequate security measures were in place.
She emphasized that the University of Ghana had no issues with Shatta Wale and that the final approval for the event needed to come from the Vice-Chancellor’s office due to the existing ban on public gatherings.
On the other hand, Wave Africa, the organizers of the event, issued a statement explaining the sequence of events that led to Shatta Wale’s non-performance.
They revealed that they had been in discussions with the Jean Topp Nelson Yankah Hall executives for two months before signing a formal contract with them and subsequently with Shatta Wale.
Despite assurances from the hall executives that the issues with the Dean of Students Office had been resolved, the event was still interrupted by campus security, citing an ‘order from above.’
As a result, Shatta Wale’s performance was canceled, and the organizers proceeded with the event without him.
The conflicting accounts between the Dean of Students Affairs and the event organizers have sparked conversations on social media, with fans and stakeholders expressing different opinions on the matter.
