Ghanaian filmmaker and director, Lil Win, recently shared some insights into the challenges faced during the production of his latest movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana.’
Originally intended to feature an all-Ghanaian cast, Lil Win decided to incorporate some Nigerian actors to enhance the film’s international appeal, especially for platforms like Netflix.
Initially, two Nigerian actors, Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, also known as ‘Awilo Sharp Sharp,’ were proposed for the project. However, a last-minute change occurred when the original lead cast withdrew from the movie just 10 days before filming began.
Lil Win had initially cast a “light-skinned Ghanaian actor who is a superstar” for the lead role, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the actor canceled the deal upon discovering the involvement of Nigerian actors in the project. Despite attempts to renegotiate, the Ghanaian actor continued to raise issues and restrictions that made working together challenging.
In light of these difficulties, Lil Win decided to seek alternative options and ultimately cast Ramsey Nouah as the lead actor. The process of bringing Ramsey Nouah on board was described as smooth, with negotiations going well and agreement on terms reached.
With half of the payment secured, Ramsey Nouah traveled to Ghana to collaborate on the movie. When asked to reveal the identity of the troublesome “light-skinned Ghanaian actor,” Lil Win stated that he would only disclose this information after the movie’s premiere.
