Akwatia, in the Eastern region of Ghana, is currently buzzing with excitement as Ghanaian artist Mubarikatu Issaka, popularly known as ‘Artist Barry’, takes on the challenge to break the longest individual painting marathon record at the Xtreme pub in Akwatia.
The 29-year-old artist has set her sights on surpassing the existing record of 100 hours, which was set by Nigerian art student Chancellor Ahaghotu earlier this year, breaking a decade-old milestone.
As of May 4, Artist Barry has already completed over 90 hours of her goal of a 130-hour marathon, which she aims to achieve within six days.
Barisa Isaaka, Mubarikatu’s sister who represents her, shared that approval for this ambitious endeavor was received back in December. However, due to necessary preparations, the marathon was delayed until now.
The artist is receiving sponsorship from Mr. Twum Barima, a well-known miner in Akwatia, as well as other individuals and philanthropists who are backing her in this record-breaking attempt.
The support for Artist Barry’s marathon is evident in the community, with many coming out to witness this remarkable feat.
Stay tuned to see if Artist Barry will make history by breaking the existing painting marathon record.
