Reality TV fans were saddened to learn of the passing of Charlie Griffin, a former star of the hit show Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. Griffin, who was known for his role as a captain on the show, tragically passed away on March 4, 2024.
Originally hailing from North Carolina, Griffin joined the cast of Wicked Tuna in season two and remained on the show until season five. Despite leaving the show, Griffin continued to pursue his passion for fishing until his untimely death.
Described as “patient and wonderful” by a friend, Griffin was known to bring a smile to everyone he met. He leaves behind a son, Jake, in addition to his successful fishing career.
The news of Griffin’s passing came following a boating accident on the Outer Banks. His boat had gone missing as it was en route to Wanchese, North Carolina for repairs. The Coast Guard launched a search and eventually located Griffin’s boat south of Oregon Inlet.
An “unresponsive person” was found near the boat, who was later identified as Griffin. His Facebook page, Reels of Fortune, confirmed the news of his passing, along with his beloved dog, Leila.
As fans mourned the loss of the beloved fisherman, tributes poured in on social media. Carolla Beach Idiots shared their condolences, remembering Griffin as a kind-hearted and talented fisherman. Others expressed their shock and sadness at the news, waiting for updates on the second fisherman who was with Griffin at the time of the accident.
