The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei has come forward to address his Gilbert syndrome diagnosis after fans noticed his “yellow eyes.”
Graziadei, who is currently starring in season 28 of ABC’s popular reality show, shared in an Instagram video that he was diagnosed with Gilbert Syndrome while in high school. The condition is characterized by the liver’s inability to process bilirubin properly, leading to a yellowish tint in the skin and eyes due to elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
“I wanted to jump on here really quick and talk about something that I’m seeing a lot of comments about, which is Joey’s yellow eyes,” Graziadei explained in the video. He recounted a time in high school when he fell ill for about a week and his mother advised him to see a doctor for tests.
After the blood work indicated high bilirubin levels, Graziadei underwent further examinations that led to the diagnosis of Gilbert syndrome. Fortunately, the actor reassured his fans by stating, “I am told that I am healthy.”
Despite the yellowish hue in his eyes, Graziadei emphasized that he is committed to maintaining his health. He expressed his intention to focus on his well-being, including staying hydrated and managing stress levels, especially during his time on a television show.
“I do appreciate everyone looking out for me and wondering if I’m OK, but to my knowledge, I’m as OK as can be, and I will continue to look at it,” he concluded. “So thank you very much.”
