The Bono Regional Secretary of Tax Justice Coalition Ghana, Simon Asore, has urged the youth to take an active role in ensuring proper accountability and transparency in revenue mobilization and its use by the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Speaking at an end-of-year review meeting by the coalition at Sunyani, the Bono regional capital, Mr Asore emphasized the need for citizens to demand accountability and transparency from the MMDAs concerning revenue generation and management.

According to him, there has been a lack of transparency and accountability, with the MMDAs often using funds without being answerable to the taxpayers. He believes that the youth have a crucial role to play in educating the public about their right to demand transparency and accountability from the MMDAs.

Mr Asore highlighted the need for the youth to engage with the MMDAs to demand accountability and transparency, as most assemblies have failed to be accountable to the taxpayers, as required by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

He also called on the youth to contribute their financial management expertise at the local level to eliminate financial irregularities and enhance accountability and transparency.

Additionally, he encouraged private sector organizations and civil society groups to actively participate in the activities of the MMDAs to promote effective revenue mobilisation and management.
